- To avoid excessive torque or breaking of the bolt, drill a 3/16" diameter core hole, 2.5" deep for soft/medium wood, or a 13/64" hole for harder wood (you can "wiggle" the 3/8 bit). 16” if you don't have these slightly larger bits)
